Beach holds exploration interests in the Carnarvon Basin and Browse Basin on the north western margin of Australia, and in the Otway and Bass basins on the south eastern margin of Australia.

PeeJay-1 in Bass Basin Permit T/38P and Fermat-1 in Otway Basin Permit Vic/P46 were drilled in 2008. Both wells failed to find commercial volumes of oil or gas.

Plans for drilling a third well, Spikey Beach-1, in Bass Basin permit T/38P, were deferred as the drilling rig was unable to jack up at the well location.  Alternate options for drilling this well are currently being assessed by the Joint Venture.  Beach will earn an 80 percent interest in the T/38P Farmout Blocks through drilling the well.

The drilling of one well in offshore Browse Basin permit WA 281P, is planned for late in 2009.  Beach has a 7.34 percent participating interest in WA 281P.
